Child Care - When Is It Too Much?

By Michael Russell

In todays economy it is a fact of life that it isnt always possible to survive on one income. All too often in a family, both parents have to work for a living. When children arent involved in the mix this isnt too big a problem since even if just one of the couple were working they still wouldnt see each other until the worker came home. But in the case of a child its a big difference. With both parents out of the house the child, depending on its age, needs to be cared for. Even a young teenager shouldnt be left all alone day after day. Teenagers can get into a lot of trouble unsupervised, even for just a couple of hours.

But what about your small child, the one who needs care all day? Certainly finding care isnt difficult, as there are many daycare centers available. But that isnt the issue of this article. The issue is the question, 'Just how beneficial is constant child care to your child?' This isnt as easy a question as it appears to answer.

Sure, we can all agree that you cant leave a 2 year old home alone all day. Yes, the child needs to be cared for if both parents are out of the house working. What needs to be addressed is the pluses and minuses of both parents working, making it necessary for the child to be cared for on a constant basis.

While the psychology of how a child will react to a stranger caring for him as opposed to how that child reacts to his own parent is beyond the scope of this article, it cant be ignored. Studies show that children that grow up in a home environment with at least one parent caring for them, grow up better adjusted than children who are left to daycare for years on end.

'But we have no choice! We both have to work!' come the screams. Well, actually, you dont have to both go to work. You choose to both go to work. Big difference. In a democracy like the United States, which is also the worst offender in this case, you are free to work or not work. But that isnt the issue either. The issue is in doing whats best for the child.

There are arguments on both ends of the spectrum. There are those who say that if the child is financially provided for and thus has all the 'essentials' in life, this will make up for the lack of time that child spends with his parents. Others say that there is no substitute for a mothers love and children who grow up in daycare centers grow up to be troubled teens.

The arguments will continue. But what the parents can do in order to help insure that their child does grow up to be well adjusted is to spend as much time with the child as possible, even if both have to work.

In the second part of this two part series well discuss several ways that the parent can provide daycare and still give the child the quality time he or she needs to be with at least one of the parents.

Reasoning Underlying an Increase in Child Care Sector Costs

By Jennifer Burns

Another issue that is linked to the employment of working mothers is the level of confidence in the child care services provided. Many studies have concentrated on the needs of employed parents. While some scholars suggest that unemployed parents are unlikely to need child care services, others anticipate that an increasing number of women in the labor force can be attributed to high accessibility of child care services to parents. As much as 1.1 million of mothers aged between 21 and 29 report child care problems as the major reason for staying unemployed. As such, about 14 percent of all mothers, who account for the total of 23 per cent of those out of the labor force, remain unemployed due to poor quality of child care services. Two thirds of mothers who report child care problems have not been employed at within the period of one year. When it comes to speaking about women with 2 or three children, as much as one third reported child care problems as the major reason for staying out of the labor force, which one and a half time more as compared to women with one child. A similar pattern can be observed among women with children ages 1 to 5, as they report child care problems twice as much as compared with women who have children age 6 and above. Minority population and Hispanics in particular are more likely to be out of labor force because of child care problems then mothers who lacked high school diploma and had financial problems. As such, mothers without high school diplomas tend to have labor market difficulties as the major reason for staying out of the labor market. It should be further pointed out, that the proportion of poor women who cite child care problem as the determining reason to remain unemployed is twice as high as among middle income and above counter parts. The tendency to have more children among poorer mothers also contributes to lower employment rates and higher frequency of child care problems.

Has Child Care Changed Over The Years?

By Douglas T Adams

Child Care Going Professional

Child care entails more than just simply raising, educating and disciplining a child. Today, the child care industry is booming. It has now become mainstream business and the emergence of a host of child care centers up and down the country is a testament to the increasing demand for professional child care services in the modern society. Peoples view on child care have shifted over the years as parents are now more open-minded to using new methods of raising children. This evolution is a far cry from when the mother, grandparents and nanny, if one could afford it, did most if not all of the looking after of the children.

Given more women are now entering the workforce than 50 years ago, the responsibilities of caring for a child no longer sit squarely on the parents shoulders. The modern society is a lot more sophisticated now and the way children are raised today is getting more complicated. Professional carers enter this field to pick up the slack. It can be a godsend for some parents who have to work long hours to pay the bills and simply couldnt find enough time to interact with their children, much less providing round the clock care for them. It provides parents with the peace of mind that their children are getting professional care from people who are specially trained to take care of young children while they are away at work.

Many nurseries have mushroomed in recent years to take care of infants as well. Although this service may not be everyones cup of tea as most mothers will find it difficult to entrust their new born or young toddlers to someone else, there is still a demand for them nonetheless. Local community centers that are registered can refer parents to qualified child care professionals. Alternatively, getting personal recommendations from other parents or a friend is a good way of finding a good child care center.

Sending a child to a child care center still proves to be controversial. Some parents are adamant that every child needs the personal love and warmth of their parents as opposed to some stranger at a child care center. Others argue placing children in the hands of professionally trained people will greatly enhance a childs social skills as they will be interacting with other children. They learn to be adaptive and will also learn to share and care about others compared to a solitary child whose only interaction is with the parents and family members.

Child Care Tax Deduction - This is How You Can Qualify

By Michael Williams

Previous laws got updated in 2001 when Bush cut back taxes; this increased the tax deductions. Now parents are entitled to use the child care tax reduction and claim up to $1,000 per child. Being able to use this deduction can open up better options in day care for parents and their children.

The child care tax deduction is aimed mostly at helping out the middle class. The middle can fall in the gaps a lot when it comes to day care and this child tax deduction aims to correct this problem. Even with certain qualifying factors regarding income, the middle class can benefit from the child care tax reduction.

Of course to have your child qualify for the child care deduction you must meet the following requirements. First they must be claimed as a dependent on your taxes. They must be 16 or younger at the end of the year. They must also be a United States citizen, alien, or resident to qualify. They must also be related to you by birth, adoption, marriage, or as foster children. There are only two limits that may disqualify you from using the deduction. One if your income exceeds $75,000 for single or widow, $110,000 for married filing jointly or $55,000 married filing separately, you cannot use the deduction. If you do exceed any of these amounts you may still be able to apply for a tax deduction, but it must be calculated to reflect your income. Your tax liability can also affect your qualification as well.

Being able to use the child tax reduction to help in the daycare of your child can be worth more than you would think. Not only does it bring you peace of mind, being able to choose a day care that you are comfortable with, but it can also save you money in the long run. If you qualify, remember to apply for the child tax deduction, its worth it.

How To Find Child Day Care

By Christine Groth

But the question is what are your beliefs on what a good child daycare should be?

This is something for you to definitely think about, for you to find a good child daycare you need to determine what kind of environment you most definitely feel comfortable in.

Here are some of the questions you should be asking yourself before you venture out in looking for a child daycare center.

1. Do you feel more comfortable with a family child daycare or a group child daycare? Both are very different. A family child daycare is usually run by one person who is the owner, and usually out of someones home. A group child daycare is usually out of a commercial building with staff on hand. Children are divided according to ages. For example all babies are in one room, all toddlers in another, and so on.You get the idea. Family child daycares usually mix all ages together, but family daycares are small- only about 8 children per center. Group centers can be very large. Perhaps up to 250 children in one center.

2.What is the policy of the child care center? Be sure to ask what there rules are regarding sickness, time off, vacations, paid holidays, emergencies. Make sure that you are clear on what these policies are; be clear on what the child daycare center is expecting of you and vice versa. Many times this is how parents and child daycare centers get into disagreement. Not over the actual childcare provided but over the policies established by the center.

3. Do you trust the provider who will be taking care of your child? If you dont trust the provider chances are you will leave the center. Also understand that child daycares arent perfect. Anytime you leave your home you take the risk of error. Im not trying to protect the child daycare center, but people do make errors and understand that children will be children. They will argue, get dirty, hit their friends and so one but realize that they are learning and this is their nature at such a young age.

I think that the above questions are so important in asking yourself. Realize that choosing a child daycare center is an important decision. Children need consistency and stable loving relationships- this is so much more important then fancy toys and big buildings.

Child Care Schools For Those Who Love Children

By Michael Bustamante Child Care Schools concern themselves with teaching skills and competencies for child care and child development. Students can choose programs to earn certificates or two-year associate degrees through vocational and trade schools, through community colleges, or in four-year or more institutions. There are also schools dedicated specifically to educating adults for providing child care. These Schools offer certificate programs in child care and provide in-depth study of children and hands-on experience learning laboratory environments.
Vocational and trade or technical Child Care Schools have no educational prerequisites or experience requirements, however, participants attending any child care institutions may be required to pass background checks required by states. Students in any educational program must be qualified with reading and math skills to progress through any secondary educational programs, including child care programs.
Associate (AA, AS), Bachelor (BA, BS), Master (MA, MS), and Doctorate (PhD, EdD) Degrees are possible in child care. Child Care School students should anticipate courses in English, reading, writing, communications, psychology, math, and using computers. Courses may address educational games, child behavior, play groups, age-appropriate activities, and child growth and development. Course work may likely include development of skills for providing careful guidance of children, children with special needs, sign language, care of infants and toddlers, as well as school-age children, child development, and the responsibilities of paraprofessionals. Graduates will understand the importance of providing for health, safety, and appropriate environments for proper learning and development. Child Care School students may be able to choose specializations in infant and toddler care, preschool, special needs, family child care, or administration. Other specializations may include child care facility food and nutrition programs, child care resource personnel, and referral agencies.

Everyday at A Quality Child Care Center

When you are a parent, you want to make sure that your child has the best child care that is possible for them. You will find that many times there are child care agencies that are not doing the things that you think they should be when it comes to your children.  You want to try and find the best possible choices so that you are taking the best care of your child even when you are not able to be there with them.

Quality child care is something that you should expect.  You want your child to be taken care of as well as possible. You do not want to take risks when your child is involved. You will want to be sure that you are checking the child care that you are using for your children so that you know they are safe and secure each time you drop them off.

Quality child care can be found when you as a parent are willing to go the distance and do some hard work. You will want to make sure that you are using all the resources that you can so that you are getting quality child care. You need to make phone calls, check references, and ask questions when it comes to the care of your child. You will feel better knowing that you have all the answers that you want before you enroll your child in any child care center.

There is no excuse for letting your child in a bad child care environment. There is no reason why you should allow your child to be mistreated in any way. You want to be sure that the child is getting the learning development and the social skills that they need to learn each time they enter day care. You will want to be sure they are getting all the quality child care they can.  You will want to do monthly visits to be involved in their child care activities.  When you are familiar with the practices of the child care center you will feel better knowing what you can expect.

Going to work and leaving your child everyday at a quality child care center is not easy. However, when you know they are being properly taken care of, you will feel more secure and a little less uncomfortable because you know they are in good hands.  You will never be totally satisfied, but you need to make sure your child is happy and healthy because of your child care choice.

As a parent, it is our duty to make sure that our children have the right health care.  There are many different things that we need to protect them from and it is important to make sure that you are doing everything that is possible to keep them safe.  There are many child health care problems that can occur and we have to be ready for them when they do.

You need to make sure that you are taking your child to the doctor for their annual check ups.  It will depend on the age of the child and the health conditions as to how many times they need to be seen by a doctor and what type of care they need.  Having the right health care is very important no matter what age a child is.

Getting child heath care is not always easy.  For some parents, they cannot afford the expense of paying for the health care that their children need to have.  When this is the case, they may have to depend on the help for local agencies and government programs.  There is nothing wrong with accepting this type of health care for your children.  It is necessary for you to get the information that you need so that the children can have the right health care coverage that they need.

There are many different organizations that you can turn to when you are in need of child health care.  No child should be turned away because of their parent's inability to pay for the medical expenses.  Children need to seek the right care so that they can be protected from the diseases and the harm that can happen to them.

Child heath care is something that needs to be done by a physician that you know and trust. You can choose your child's physician by checking out the different references that they have or by the advice from a friend.  You should also make sure that your health care provider that you are using for the child would accept your method of insurance.  This is something that you need to be aware of so that you are not paying for the costs out of your own pocket.

Your child's health care is going to be everything from the doctor visits that you take them for right down to the way that you care for them. You want to make sure that you are dressing them for the weather conditions and giving them the proper nutrition that their bodies need to grow and be healthy.  These things are all apart of being a productive parent of a happy and healthy child.
